Windows 7 Audio Service keeps "Stopping" if restarted, it stops again
I am trying to resolve a problem with my Daughter’s PC. It has a Biostar Tforce 6100-939 motherboard and an AMD64 4000+ San Diego Single Core CPU. The System also has 2 GB of G.Skill PC3200 RAM in Dual Channel Mode. The Video as well as the Audio is onboard. The Audio is Realtek AC97 The System was previously running Windows Vista Ultimate without issues, it ran just fine. After upgrading System to Windows 7 Ultimate, issues with the sound appeared. The Upgrade was a “Clean Install.” The symptoms I am experiencing have been reported elsewhere in this forum, but I have not seen that a “FIX” has been found. The Symptoms:-------> Upon booting up the Computer, the “Sound Icon” in the notification area appears normal. However, once you click on it and select any option shown the dialogue box that appears, the Audio Service STOPS and a RED X appears over the Sound Icon. I can use “services.msc” and restart the service, but it only stops again if any sound related action is taken. I have located and installed the Latest Drivers. I have Reinstalled Windows 7. I have tried other fixes and tweaks found on this forum and others, all without success. I don’t even remember all the tweaks I tried, which is why I did another “Clean Install” to start from scratch. No matter what I have tried, the Audio Service keeps stopping whenever it is accessed. So, is this a Hardware Conflict that has NO resolution? I can go back to Vista, but that is NOT what I really want to do. Any Ideas? Thank You, Tim

Hi Tim,According to your Audio model, I suggest install the latest Realtek AC 97 Audio Driver for Windows 7 below:http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Realtek-AC-97-Audio-Driver-for-Windows-7-Download-78856.htmlIf that does not help, I would suggest update\reset the BIOS to the default and update your chipset driver if possible. You have a legacy motherboard, download the chipset and audio driver and install them in compatible mode. HOW TO: Install a Hardware Device Driver using Compatibility ModeTo update the BIOS, see http://www.biostar-usa.com/bioshelp.asp

Thank you for the reply. I have already tried the Realtek Audio Drivers with no luck. The Motherboard already has the latest available BIOS. (June 2006) I have downloaded and installed the drivers from the Biostar Download site, but I did NOT install them in "Compatible Mode" So I will try installing the Biostar Chipset and Audio Drivers using the method you suggested. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again, Tim

Installed the Audio Driver from the BIOSTAR Download Page using Compatibility Mode and all is well. As soon as I saw your reply I did the "I Could of Had A V8" smack upside the head and said, "Of Course" why did I NOT think of that? So Thank You for your reply and all is well with the BIOSTAR Motherboard and Widows 7. -Tim :)
